About the recordings of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga:
Cheek to Cheek is the first collaborative album by American singers Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, released on September 19, 2014, by Columbia and Interscope Records. It is Bennett's fifty-eighth studio album, and Gaga's fourth. The two first met at the Robin Hood Foundation gala in New York City in 2011, and later recorded a rendition of "The Lady Is a Tramp" together, after which they began discussing plans of working on a jazz project. Cheek to Cheek consists of jazz standards by popular composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, and Irving Berlin. It was inspired by Bennett and Gaga's desire to introduce the songs to a younger generation, since they believed these tracks have a universal appeal.
In January 2013, the album was announced by both artists and started its recording process after Gaga recovered from a hip surgery. It was recorded in New York City, where Bennett and Gaga were accompanied by a live band and jazz musicians associated with both artists. Gaga deviated from her previous contemporary pop albums as she wanted instead to create a jazz record. The release date of the album was delayed multiple times, and the final date was announced by Bennett and Gaga on The Today Show. The full-length track listing and cover artwork was released thereafter; including the track lists for many alternate editions. The artists promoted Cheek to Cheek through multiple performances in and around New York, a "behind the scenes" program detailing the recording of the album on the Home Shopping Network (HSN), and a televised concert titled Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!, which aired on PBS in October 2014. The album was preceded by the release of two singles: "Anything Goes" and "I Can't Give You Anything but Love", which both reached number one on Billboard's Jazz Digital Songs Chart in the United States.
Love for Sale is the second and final collaborative album by American singers Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, released on September 30, 2021, by Columbia and Interscope Records. It is the sixty-first studio album of Bennett's career, and Gaga's seventh. Following Cheek to Cheek (2014), the duo's first collaborative album, Love for Sale was recorded between 2018 and early 2020, consisting of their renditions of various jazz standards by American composer Cole Porter, to whom the record is a tribute.
Upon release, Love for Sale received generally favorable reviews from music critics, most of whom highlighted the vocal chemistry between Bennett and Gaga. The album charted inside the top 10 of albums charts in various countries. On the US Billboard 200, it debuted at number 8 as the duo's second top-10 entry, and garnered Bennett the individual record for the longest span of top-10 albums for any living artist; his first top-10 record was I Left My Heart in San Francisco in 1962. Bennett also broke the Guinness World Record for the oldest person to release an album of new material, at the age of 95 years and 60 days. The album received nominations for Album of the Year, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, while the track "I Get a Kick Out of You" is nominated for Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video.
About Alan Bodner:
The creative process of Alan Bodner is spontaneous, unpredictable, and often chaotic. Bodner’s art is a mastery of original painting, digital imagery, and dimensional paper sculpture. The vibrant, theatrical compositions embody a menagerie of original characters, personalities, and monsters in surreal, complex settings. With cultural references to the past, present, and his personal vision of the future, Bodner compounds, distorts, and exaggerates for emotional effect—the result consistently friendly and engaging. His fine art is featured in galleries and museums throughout the U.S.—including the Paley Center For Media in Beverly Hills—and ranges from pop surrealism prints to multi-tier geometric assemblage.
Raised in Portland, Oregon, by an extended family of dancers, musicians, toy distributors, and clothing designers, Bodner’s childhood was an overload of creative forces that nurtured a timeless personality: an esoteric mix of Road Runner, Peter Pan, and Ideal’s Mr. Machine. After an adolescence inspired by Erte, Miro, and mid-century pop art, Bodner moved to Los Angeles and developed his talents at Art Center College of Design.
Bodner’s fine art is an extension of an Emmy Award-winning, 25-year career as an Art Director for numerous studios and production companies, including the Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros., DreamWorks, The Cartoon Network, and Filmation, to name a few. Mighty Mouse, The Fat Albert Show, Heckle & Jeckle, and Pee Wee’s Playhouse comprise his early credits—followed by Looney Tunes theatrical shorts with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Sylvester & Tweety. Credits include the Emmy-nominated Kim Possible, Phineas & Ferb, The Replacements, Mickey’s Twice Upon A Christmas, The Iron Giant, Cinderella II, Neighbors From Hell, The Life & Times of Juniper Lee, the classic Bugs Bunny short Carrotblanca, and many more. His five Annie Award nominations include a win for Warner Bros. The Iron Giant and Emmy for Disney’s Tangled Series.
