Zatanna is one of the most powerful magicians in the DC Universe. Her father was the legendary magician, Zatara, and she works hard to live up to his legacy. Her spell casting comes from speaking backwards. Zatanna can do virtually anything as long as she describes it in sdrawkcab hceeps (backwards speech). Like her father, Zatanna also possesses a notable stage career as a famous magician and illusionist when not being a superhero.   Zatanna is actually a homo magi, a special race of humans that possesses real magical power. She is a direct descendent of the notable artist and magician Leonardo da Vinci and is related to Nostradamus, Alessandro Cagliostro, Nicholas Flamel and Evan Fulcanelli, all of whom are homo magi.   Zatanna is known for having romatic feelings for Batman which are reciprocated to a degree. In some continuities, Bruce Wayne, in training to become Batman, learned escape artistry, sleight of hand and other tricks from her father, Zatara. That was how the two met and Zatanna fell in love with the soon-to-be Batman.
