Scoobert "Scooby-Doo" Doo is the eponymous character and protagonist of the Scooby-Doo animated television series created by popular American animation company Hanna-Barbera. Scooby-Doo is a male Great Dane and lifelong companion to his best friend, Shaggy Rogers. Scooby is regarded as a unique dog, compared to other dogs in the series, as he is capable of speaking in broken English, commonly placing the letter R in front of words spoken. For example, Scooby would say "That's right, Shaggy" as "Rat's right, Raggy". Regardless of his speech, everyone is still generally able to understand him.
In every version of the character, Scoody-doo is the best friend and companion of Shaggy and is commonly seen with him. They both share similar personalities, most notably cowardice and perpetual hunger. Shaggy and Scooby will frequently scream, cower and flee from the costumed villains of the series and are often motivated by the possibility of getting something to eat. Oftentimes, Scooby's friends (Velma, Daphne and Fred) will encourage Scooby to act by enticing him with Scooby Snacks, an apparently delicious biscuit-like cookie. His signature catch-phrase at the end of every episode is "Scooby-dooby-doo!" or occasionally "Rooby-rooby-roo!"
