Ron Weasley has been Harry's first and best friend. He is the youngest boy in the Weasley family but the second youngest child overall, being a year older than his sister, Ginny. He meets Harry Potter on the Hogwarts Express during their first year. Coming from a humble background, Ron and Harry have much in common and the two become fast friends, with Ron teaching Harry about the ins and outs of the wizarding world. Ron's family has played an important role in helping him become the person that he is. He is a bit embarassed of coming from an impoverished background but has great pride in his family and will fiercely defend them. While not considered the greatest wizard, Ron has certain strengths that come out as the books unfold. He's someone that JK Rowling describes as being 'always there for Harry'.

His relationships with the opposite sex have been interesting. Although he is best friends with Hermione Granger, they tend to annoy the other on a regular basis. Ron has a great talent for Wizarding Chess, being good enough to solidly beat Hermione, something that he and Harry agree as being very good for Hermione. His talent at chess shows a great strategic mind, which he showed in his first year. He is a good Quidditch player, but seems to have a defeatist attitude, which lowers his confidence and dulls his skills. His greatest strength is his generally unwavering support for Harry that has buoyed Harry through more than a few obstacles.
