The main character of the 1998 American animated musical film directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, with story by Robert D. San Souci. She is based loosely on the character from the Chinese poem "The Song of Fa Mu Lan".
Disney's 1998 animated adaptation Mulan depicts her as a strong, opinionated girl who seeks her parents approval while trying to keep true to herself. When her father (an injured war veteran) is called once more to serve in the army against the invading Huns, Mulan impersonates a male soldier and goes to war in place of her father. There she finds that her intelligence and outspoken attitude that were the reasons for her family's disgrace become her best assets.
