Homer Simpson: Homer Jay Simpson is the patriarch of the Simpson family, from The Simpsons, an animated sitcom created by Matt Groening. Homer was born to Abraham Simpson, a WWII veteran, and Mona Simpson, a hardcore activist, in the town of Springfield. When he grew up, Homer married Marge Bouvier, his high school sweetheart. Together, they had three children: Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Homer is, for lack of a better word, an idiot. Slow-witted, lazy and lacking any sort of interest in high education (because of a crayon lodged in his brain), Homer seemingly stumbles through life, making many mistakes along the way. Homer primarily works as a safety inspector at Springfield's nuclear power plant, despite his incompetence. Homer serves as one of the biggest sources of comedy in The Simpsons. One element that is touched on is his appetite and his tendency to eat ridiculously large amounts of food and drink enormous amounts of alcohol, often to humerous effect. His stupidity is another source of amusement, oftentimes launching into hare-brained schemes or simply being ignorant of whatever situation he finds himself in. Homer is also prone to getting severely injured, oftentimes through his own actions and with hilarious results. Although Homer's actions tend to get him in trouble, he generally comes out on top, such as when he regularly angers his family through his neglect, laziness, stupidity, etc. But, Homer generally sees the error of his ways and fixes the situation. Ultimately, Homer comes across as a loveable fool, despite his many, many flaws. Homer and the Simpsons have had many adventures of the years and Homer, himself, has lived a very eventful life. Beyond his normal job as a nuclear safety inspector, Homer has been a professional mascot, a country music producer, a member of a barbershop quartet, a pin monkey at a bowling alley, a convenience store clerk, a mall santa, a farmer, a boxer, a truck driver, a hippie, a food critic, a conceptual artist, a bodyguard for the mayor, an inventor, a mountain climber, a missionary, a member of the US Army and the US Navy, and an astronaut among numerous others. His most famous catchphrases are: "WooHoo!" "D'oh!" and "mmm...[insert food name], *drools*"
