Ginny Weasley
Ginevra Molly "Ginny" Weasley is the youngest of the Weasley family and the only daughter. In fact, she is the first female born into the Weasley family in generations. Despite being a year younger than Ron and Harry, Ginny is a powerful and talented witch.
She develops a crush on Harry Potter after first meeting him following his first year at Hogwarts. This leads her to becoming uncharacteristically shy and clumsy around Harry, when normally she is talkative and not prone to knocking things over and embarassing herself.
When she attends Hogwarts herself, she is sorted into Gryffindor House. Her first year at Hogwarts, Ginny acts on her crush, causing quite a few headaches for Harry. It was also then that she encountered the diary of Tom Riddle, also known as Lord Voldemort, and became possessed by it. Under the diary's influence, she opened the Chamber of Secrets and released a basilisk.
Ginny doesn't relax and become friends with Harry until the events of the Goblet of Fire where she is advised to become more casual and relaxed (more herself) around Harry. She also began dating other people, in the hopes of getting over her crush of him. Ginny plays a more prominent role in the story as she grows older. Her parents become active members of the Order of the Phoenix following the revival of Lord Voldemort, placing her close to the forefront of the struggle. She becomes a member of the DA, the Defense Association, to learn defensive magic during the events of the Order of the Phoenix, and shows herself to be a very powerful witch. In her fifth year, during The Half Blood Prince, Ginny enters into a relationship is Harry although that soon ends. She takes part in the Battle for Hogwarts and the Second Wizarding War, after which she rekindles her relationship with Harry.
